Packing Istene, Tom and my bikes for the first leg of a many legged journey across and around Africa (travelling from Springs to Haernetsburg). We had a whole bunch of delegating and weight distribution to consider during the process. Tom wanted to bring 6 inflated soccer balls, we opted for this being wasted space on a motorcycle and left them behind.
We got all or gear together took a ride around the garden to acclimatize to the weight and new balance distribution of the bikes.
Fully packed, we got underway on what proved to be a wonderful scenic route to Haernetsburg (located in the mountains between Polokwane and Tzaneen on the R21).
We needed to meet up with Mike and prepare the last few things as well as distribute weight evenly between the bikes (spares, tools and cooking utensils).
Tom had to shoot off when we departed, to visit the Army Surplus store in-order to purchase a poncho. We met up with him again near Moria City on our way up the mountains. We arrived and met Mike and finally The Nitty Gritty Nomads team was complete! Ready for our African adventure. We stayed at Wegraakbosch Organic Farm just outside Haernetsburg, where we unpacked again.
We sorted out all the tools, various tapes, cable-ties and spares.
Once we were confident we had all the equipment we needed to be self sustaining on our trip we got Mikes sister involved in our gangsta picture.
We will be departing to Hoedsruit soon, to see The Giant Baobab, Moholoholo Rehabilitation Center and the lovely bushveld around Marieps Kop Mountain.
We will give an update on Haernetsburg adventures as soon as possible, including hiking to waterfalls, sailing on Ebenezer dam and visiting the most picturesque grave yard in the country.
The first stop of many on our journey, through, across and around Africa.
